On Saturday, I stopped into the National Portrait Gallery as a banner outside was advertising an exhibition called Off the Beaten Track, Three Centuries of Women Travellers. It was fascinating to learn about the rather exotic lives of some of these independent (and obviously well off) women. It has caused my travel bug to become further resilient to any of my cries of, "I've got plenty of time left to travel around the country!" So, either this weekend or next (depending on whether I can rustle up some accommodation), I am going to 1066 country. Or some other place outside London....anywhere outside London.
